THE WORLD'S BIGGEST RISK

The geopolitical dangers taking shape around the world will impact our lives in the years to come.

Continuing the trends from 2019, the geopolitical environment is still dangerous and volatile

The trade conflicts, the political polarization, the conflict seeds in the middle east and the climate crisis - all determine us to expect increased turbulence this year.

Eurasia Group identified a Top 10 Political Risks in its annual forecast:

10. TURKEY

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has entered a period of political decline. With a long history of provocative behavior in response to threats, his weakness may lead him to react violently.

9. DISCONTENT IN LATIN AMERICA

Public anger over slow growth, corruption, and low-quality public services will keep social tensions high, rising the risk of political instability across Latin America in 2020.

8. SHIA CRESCENDO

US policy toward the major Shia-led nations in the Middle East is failing. That creates significant risks for regional stability.

7. POLITICS VS. ECONOMICS OF CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change will create a collision course for corporate decision-makers while the politics of climate chamge doesn't seem to be working.

6. GEOPOLITICAL EUROPE

For years, Europe has proven unable or unwilling to effectively push back where it disagreed with Washington or Beijing. This is about to change.

5. INDIA GETS 'MODI'-FIED

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spent much of his second term promoting controversial social policies at the expense of an economic agenda. The impacts will be felt in 2020.

4. MNCS (Multi National Corporations) NOT TO THE RESCUE

Nation-states and governments will prepare new regulations (new data policies, higher taxes, new cyber standards) creating a more challenging environment in 2020.

3. US/CHINA

There is a clash between US and China in technology, national security, global influence and values. Divergences between the US and China's political structures will use economic tools as the main 'weapons". This is was a TOP risk of 2019 also.

2. THE GREAT DECOUPLING

The decision by China and the US to decouple in the technology sphere is the single most impactful geopolitical development for globalization since the Soviet Union collapsed. If this will happen, it will disrupt beneficial flows of technology, talent, and investment between the two countries.

1. RIGGED!?: WHO GOVERNS THE US?

The US domestic politics was never before considered a Top Risk, but in 2020, the US democratic institutions will be tested in unprecedented ways. The uncertainty surrounding the elections will take the US into uncharted political waters, with possible shock-waves across the world.

>> Are yoU worried about the future?

The political, economical, environmental and technological factors are changing the world!

We face new global challenges!

All these risks may not lead to a 'catastrophe' this year, but left untended they will start new crises and will gradually destroy the global stability.

We should not be pessimistic: nothing is certain (predetermined) unless we do nothing about it!

We should do more than talk about the future! We must ACT for IMPACT.

It's time to start acting together!

Anything is better than nothing.

We must make relatively small steps:

Small actions that may seem insignificant can grow into powerful movements and game changing trends - if we work together and use the technology for collaboration and problem solving.

Let's not focus on how it affects me or you, but how it will affect us all – society and humanity.
