February 13... not just Valentine's Day Eve, but WORLD RADIO DAY!
They said that VIDEO killed the RADIO star! But this didn't happen! Each new medium came and captured the public attention: Print Media, Radio, TV, audio cassette, video cassette, CD, DVD, Internet etc. Each medium had to reinvent itself after successive new media and digital waves. But Radio did not die! Radio transmission and broadcasting have come a long way since the founding of the Marconi Corporation 123 years ago, in 1897. Radio transformed print media, news, politics, sports, music, entertainment, education, and even the driving experience. More than that, RADIO managed to reinvent itself after the world's attention was captured by TV, internet or mobile phones.
The UN has designated February 13, WORLD RADIO DAY, and this year celebration is recognizing the enduring power of radio to promote diversity and help build a more peaceful and inclusive world.
The truth is that nothing can be done without proper communication and collaboration.
Radio remains a powerful medium for celebrating humanity in all its diversity and constitutes a platform for democratic discourse.
At the global level, radio remains the most widely consumed medium. This unique ability to reach out to the widest audience means radio can shape a society’s experience of diversity, stand as an arena for all voices to speak out, be represented and heard.
Radio stations are serving diverse communities, offering a wide variety of programs, viewpoints, and content, and reflect the diversity of audiences in their organizations and operations.
Exactly like our UDemocracy platform is OPEN to anybody, aiming to bring the democracy stakeholders together, to encourage communication & collaboration, real dialogue, and meaningful projects & actions.
Both Radio and our UDemocracy.net platform are focused on the mission to bring people & communities together and to foster positive dialogue for change.
Here on UDemocracy.net and in our UDemocracy events, like 'on air' in radio, we welcome a diversity of views and voices needed to address the challenges we all face.
